Born in Montreal, raised in Toronto, Shyann is an Indo-Canadian singer-songwriter who combines jazz, trip hop & opera to craft her sound. She describes her music as ‘dark’, Portishead meets Amy Winehouse. Her debut album ‘Into The Ground’, produced by Nick Name, showcases this unique sound.
‘Into The Ground’ is a FACTOR-funded project that combines Shyann’s haunting vocals with Nick Name’s unique production. After performing to a sold out crowd at her album release party (held at Drake Underground), the duo embarked on a project to record live performances of a number of songs from the album. ‘Live At Hart’ is a series of live music videos that were recorded at Hart House in Toronto.
Since the album’s release, Shyann has played Nathan Phillips Square, Yonge-Dundas Square, MOD Club, The Carlu, Celebration Square, and many other venues across Ontario. She also toured Japan in 2014 promoting her debut album across Tokyo, Osaka, Fukushima and Kyoto. More recently this past summer, Shyann had a successful artist showcase in Toronto playing to hundreds at ‘City Hall Live’ & also performed at Pearson International Airport for ‘YYZ Live’, where her and her bandmates were able to welcome those arriving from international destinations with live music, a truly positive, humbling experience.
With new music in the works, Shyann is eager to continue crafting her sound, both as a recording artist and performer.
‘Music is the ultimate outlet for my perception, both of the world and of myself.’
